As a long-time dog owner, and owner/operator of a dog walking & pet sitting business, I know how much dog training and behavior modification help owners understand their dogs and enjoy more peaceful & productive relationships with them. I studied the science of how dogs learn through Animal Behavior College, achieved certification, and became owner/operator of Walks and Wags Dog Training. I'm skilled in how to identify and manage problem behaviors, and how to use positive reinforcement training methods to help dogs choose correct behaviors, which I apply as I work with my clients.

How I Started...
Hi, I'm Marlene Layman. I have always been an animal lover and especially have a heart for shelter dogs that need a home. As a result, we have adopted shelter dogs for the last 20+ years, and now have a unique mix of 3 dogs that make their home with us. Because of Maggie, a reactive & aggressive dog that came to us over 10 years ago, I had a desire to help people have a better relationship with their dogs through training. I started my work in observing dogs through my pet sitting & dog walking business. At the same time, I studied for my dog training certification.
As I experienced a few years as a dog walker & pet sitter, I saw a need to help owners have better relationships with their dogs through dog training. My experience with my own challenging rescue dogs also contributed to this! As a result, I studied, tested & did hands-on work to obtain dog training certification from Animal Behavior College. I have a great group of dog training clients in the local area and able to offer more in-home programs, as well as group classes locally. I especially enjoy helping people with reactive dogs as well as getting puppies off to a right start. I have a special place in my heart for senior dogs, who are my favorites!
